The
award ceremony for diplomas in Language and Inter-cultural
Mediation of the L. Massignon School in Rome
On
Sunday 3rd July a celebration took place at Villa Pamphili in
Rome to mark the completion of the academic year 2004-2005 at
the L. Masignon School. Diplomas for courses in Italian and
Inter-Cultural Mediation were awarded to successful candidates
in the traditional graduation ceremony.
It was an occasion few were prepared to miss. 600 diploma
certificates were awarded, but the number of people present at
the ceremony, organised by The Peace People, was far greater.
Some of those attending had been obliged to obtain a work permit
for the occasion, despite the fact that the ceremony took place
on a Sunday. Others arrived with all the family, and one female
student was accompanied by her employer, an elderly lady who was
exceptionally proud of her carer. The Louis Massignon School
began its activities 23 years ago: the class of 1982 consisted
of a small group of immigrants. With recognition by the Ministry
of Education, it is has now spread to 7 cities in Italy as well
as being present in Spain, Belgium and Germany. The fact that
its courses are provided free of charge does not detract in the
least from the high professional standards maintained by the
teaching staff, all of whom are volunteers, while their numerous
publications attest to the currency of the teaching
methodologies employed.
