Yokamon Hearn

 (Texas-USA) - 34 years old

 Sentenced to death

Execution set for July 18th 2012

His story

Yokamon Hearn was just 19 when he was sentenced to death, in 1998, charged with murder of a man a little bit older than him during a robbery, carried out with other accomplices.

Now he is lying inside Polunski death row, Texas. Like many other capital inmates, Yokamon comes from a poor and hard childhood, without a father caring about him, and with his mother usually taking drugs.

His execution had already been decided on march 2004, but just a little time before the lethal injection worked, it was blocked thanks to a last minute stop due to an appeal claiming his mental retardation. Nevertheless, on April 2012 his capital sentence was confirmed, and the new date of execution is awfully set for the next July 18th.

The appeal to save Yokamon

The Community of Sant’Egidio urges everybody to share its appeal aiming to spare Yokamon’s life from the execution, sending the following statement to the Texas’ Governor by fax or e-mail.

URGENT APPEAL BROUGHT OUT BY THE COMMUNITY OF SANT’EGIDIO TO SAVE THE LIFE OF YOKAMON HEARN, SENTENCED TO DEATH

Dear Governor

I am writing to express my deep concern over a ruling which sentenced to death Mr. Yokamon Hearn, in spite of his evident mental retardation.

I urge you to intervene on his behalf to prevent this cruel and inhuman punishment from being meted out against him.

I implore you to ensure that this cruel and inhuman sentence is not carried out.

Respectfully Yours
