A delegation of the Community of Sant'Egidio meets the German Chancellor
Angela Merkel
On
the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Community of Sant'Egidio, a
delegation lead by Professor Andrea Riccardi and Professor Marco
Impagliazzo, respectively the founder and the president of the
community, was received in Berlin by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The meeting lasted one hour in a climate of great cordiality. Also
attending to the meeting was the federal minister for education and
research Mrs Annette Schavan. The main focuses of the meeting was the
mission of Europe in the world, the development of African countries -
with a special reference to the treatment of AIDS- inter-religious
dialogue and the great challenges that our time is facing. Angela Merkel
thanked the Community for its work on the international scene to favour
peace and development and especially for the DREAM program for treatment
of AIDS and malnutrition in Africa that, at present is treating 45.000
people in 10 African countries.
