|Sixteen Jews were killed in Meina by the Nazi SS and their bodies were thrown
in the lake on September 15th and 16th, 1943. Meina is a small village at
the frontier between Swiss and Italy and there some Jews took refuge waiting
for the possibility to cross the border and to escape the Nazi persecution.
Meina was at the center of a slaughter which struck 56 Jews there and in
the villages and cities around, including Novara.
Mrs. Becky Behar was one of the survivors and her witness is presented in
the book edited by the Community of Sant'Egidio. The book was presented
on May 17th in Florence with the participation of Mr. Joseph Levi, Rabbi
of Florence, don Alfredo Jacopozzi, The Head of the High Institute for Religious
Sciences, and Mrs. Daniela Sironi, of the Community of Sant'Egidio|
