printable version

Muhammad Yunus, the 'banker to the poor', as reads the title of his famous book published in 1998, visited the Community of Sant'Egidio in Rome on 10 May.

Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 and internationally renowned for his work for microcredit and social economy, Yunus wanted to know the Community's commitment to the poorest, stopping at the Trattoria de Gli Amici, an example of social economy that greatly impressed him. The meeting was an opportunity to reflect and discuss on the social innovation models that Sant'Egidio and the Yunus Centre develop around the world. At the end Muhammad Yunus confirmed its intention to cooperate with the Community of Sant'Egidio for the realisation of joint initiatives in favour of the poorest.
