On August 25, to mark the third National Day of Solidarity in Côte d’Ivoire, the Community of Sant'Egidio was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for its actions in helping the less privileged and for its contribution to social cohesion by the Minister of Solidarity and of Victims of War.
This is an important acknowledgement and spur for the Community’s commitment to the poorest of the poor. The award ceremony took place in the national capital, Abidjan, with the National Day being celebrated in 11 cities around the country.
The venue for the ceremony was a place dear to the Community, the village of Anoumabo in Marcory, where many poor families live who are tied to the Community by a bond of friendship going back many years.
Official figures attending expressed their thanks for the work of Sant'Egidio in sustaining the return of peace to Côte d’Ivoire.
