This year Christmas Lunch with the Community of Sant’Egidio will be held in 73 countries: 32 in Africa, 6 in Asia, 20 in Europe, 15 in the Americas.
More than 500 cities: metropolises like Manila and Mexico City, small African villages and large cities from Paris to Jakarta and San Salvador. More than 130,000 people, a large family that meets at Christmas and meets again throughout the year.
In the Horn of Africa, in countries just emerging from violent crises like the Ivory Coast, North Uganda, Guinea, the Congo of the two presidents, more than 4,000 people are involved…in jails and among AIDS victims being treated through the DREAM program.
In Pakistan, Christmas lunches take place in ten cities, from Islamabad to Lahore. Christians and Muslims sit together at the same table as Christmas becomes a time of solidarity, dialogue and the art of coexistence. Buenos Aires, North and South America.
The Community of Sant’Egidio’s Christmas lunches around the world are self-financed and are made possible by spontaneous fund-raising activities in each country. Over 10,000 volunteers are involved and 300,000 Christmas presents are distributed.
