"The Community of Sant'Egidio welcomes with great joy and gratitude the news of the assignment of the Title of Santa Maria in Trastevere to Cardinal Loris Francesco Capovilla, announced by Pope Francis during the Ordinary Public Consistory of today in which the 19 new cardinals announced on 12 January were created. In welcoming the new Cardinal with filial affection, Our Community, which meets in prayer every day in Rome in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, recalls the venerable figure of Pope John XXIII, of whom Monsignor Capovilla was a close collaborator, and whose canonization is approaching. Cardinal Capovilla is a witness to the message of universal peace that characterised the papacy of Pope John along with the invitation to the Church to accept the whole humanity and in particular the poor. In these teachings, the Community of Sant'Egidio, born in the spring season of the Church opened with the Council, draws inspiration in the activities that promotes everywhere it is present in the world".
