The Community of Sant’Egidio expresses its satisfaction for the bestowal of the Nobel Peace Prize to Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani woman who, at the price of personal suffering, has become a symbol for the battle to assure the right of children and women to education in Pakistan, and to the Indian children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi.
The award represents a symbol of hope for all children and youths in Pakistan, India and the rest of the world who dream of emerging from poverty and marginalization through study and education. Best wishes to Malala and Satyarth from the Community of Sant’Egidio so that they may successfully continue to pursue their cause. |
