ARABIA SAUDITA: ESEGUITE TRE CONDANNE A MORTE TRE STRANIERI, CONDANNATI PER TRAFFICO STUPEFACENTI
DUBAI, - In Arabia Saudita, a Gedda, sono state oggi eseguite tre condanne a morte pronunciate contro due thailandesi ed un pachistano giudicati colpevoli di traffico di stupefacenti, ha reso noto il ministero dell'interno.
I due thailandesi sono stati condannati per traffico di hashish, mentre il pachistano per traffico di eroina. In Arabia Saudita vige la Sharia (legge coranica), in base alla quale reati come l'omicidio, lo stupro e il traffico di stupefacenti sono puniti con la pena capitale. Le esecuzioni vengono generalmente eseguite mediante decapitazione, a colpi di scimitarra, il venerdi', davanti alle moschee, dopo la preghiera settimanale.
Saudi Arabia executes three drug smugglers
RIYADH, - Saudi Arabia executed on Monday two Thais and a Pakistani convicted of drug smuggling, the Interior Ministry said.
The two Thai men were found guilty of smuggling and selling hashish, while the Pakistani was convicted of swallowing packets of heroin and smuggling them into the country.
The conservative kingdom executes convicted murderers, rapists and drug smugglers, usually by public beheading with a sword. Monday's executions, in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, brought to six the number of people put to death this year.
At least 35 people were executed last year and 53 in 2003.
