Malawi: offering hope to the hunger and displaced elderly people

Sant’Egidio delivers

Since cyclone Idai wreaked death and destruction in Malawi, heavy constant rains did not allowed to bring humanitarian aid to the most remote villages. Until now: rains have stoped allowing volunteers of Sant’Egidio to start new aid distributions to more than 800,000 people in need of everything.

Sant’Egidio delivered life saving food to 10,000 affected people. The number of displaced people is 94,000. Many of them use to live in remote villages and could not find shelter in refugee camps. At present, they sleep on the streets or in their destroyed houses. Those who were able to, like the youngsters, they run away. Only the elderly are left, the most fragile people, who managed to survive by eating grass and shrubs: when they saw us carrying mainly flour and oil, they started dancing out of joy and happiness.

Please help SANT’EGIDIO save lives in Malawi.
