The 3rd World Day of the Poor will be celebrated this coming Sunday 17th November. Commissioned by Pope Francis at the conclusion of the Jubilee of Mercy, the Day of the Poor has become a global event, to which the Community of Sant'Egidio joins where it is present: in many European cities, as in Africa , Asia and Latin America, with elderly, street children and Schools of Peace, people in distress, prisoners, people living on the street.
It reads in the Pope’s message:
“The hope of the poor will not perish for ever” (Ps 9:19). These words of the Psalm remain timely. They express a profound truth that faith impresses above all on the hearts of the poor, restoring lost hope in the face of injustice, sufferings and the uncertainties of life. CONTINUE READING
