26 years later the historic peace agreement achieved trough the Community mediation

Today Friday the 14th September, the Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, will visit the Community of Sant’Egidio in Rome. Especially, he will meet with the founder of the Community Prof Andrea Riccardi, the President Marco Impagliazzo and other officers.

26 years have now passed since the historic peace agreement signed in Rome on the 4th October 1992. The agreement was achieved thanks to the mediation of Sant’Egidio. Since then, Mozambique has experienced long-lasting stability and constant development.
Nowadays, there are numerous Communities of Sant’Egidio in Mozambique particularly active in the outskirts of cities and villages. All members of Sant’Egidio are engaged in supporting the most vulnerable persons of the society, such as: street children, elderly people in distress and prisoners. Moreover, Sant’Egidio is well know by Mozambican people for its remarkable DREAM project, for the cure of AIDS. The project, which started in Mozambique 10 years ago, is now active in more than ten different countries in Africa.
