Sant'Egidio remembers with affection mons. Capovilla: he kept alive the memory of John XXIII and of the Council.

Honoured by a long friendship in a sign of the Gospel and peace.

The Community of Sant'Egidio remembers with affection Cardinal Loris Francesco Capovilla, who died today at the age of one hundred years, after a long and active life in the service of the Gospel and peace. Cardinal Capovilla has kept alive the memory of John XXIII and of the springtime of the Church that was the Second Vatican Council, staying young in spirit and preserving openness and sympathy.

Over the years, Capovilla had numerous meetings with our Community transmitting with passion the spirit of the Council to so many groups of young people and following with interest and participation the initiatives of dialogue, peace and service to the last, which were carried out by Sant'Egidio. A friendship that has honoured us and which was sealed in 2014, when he was made a cardinal, with the title of Santa Maria in Trastevere.
