ONCE AGAIN THE COMMUNITY OF SANT’EGIDIO STRONGLY CALLS FOR A TRUCE FOR THE CITY OF ALEPPO

Aleppo is exhausted. A political agreement between the parties seems far off. UN’s appeals for a humanitarian truce remain unheeded. Aleppo is a city symbol of coexistence between cultures and religions and is going through the toughest moment in its history. The forces on the ground are sparing no means, not even the most heinous, to achieve a victory that has eluded everyone for five years.
A truce is needed immediately to free the inhabitants from a siege, which is killing them starting with the weakest, the sick, and the children. Priority should be given to the population, which is now deprived of everything they need.
Andrea Riccardi wrote recently "History will demand an account of so much death and destruction. We must stop while there is still some hope and life in Aleppo." We cannot let Aleppo die.
