IRAQ: SANT'EGIDIO’S CONCERN OVER THE USE OF THE DEATH PENALTY

The Community of Sant'Egidio expresses its serious concern about the massive and repeated use of the death penalty in Iraq. Sant'Egidio has always been against capital punishment and it has been the first promoter of a campaign for the worldwide moratorium on executions. Specifically, the Community has recently appealed to the Iraqi authorities in this regard, hoping that action will be taken with respect for human life and in the exercise of a justice that offers possibilities for rehabilitation. These issues will even be discussed in meetings that are scheduled to happen soon with the Iraqi delegations.
