Today, a delegation of the Community of Sant'Egidio met with the President of the Republic of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, who is visiting Rome.
During the meeting, the long history of friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Niger and the Community of Sant'Egidio was recalled. For instance, it was remembered an important step, which was the signing of the National Pact for the democratic transition of this African country. This crucial event occurred in 2010 at Sant'Egidio.
The meeting even discussed the peace work of Sant'Egidio in Africa, particularly in the Sahel region.
By recalling President Issoufou’s participation in the international meeting that is called Strade di Pace, which took place in Münster last year, he thanked the Community for its constant commitment to peace and dialogue.
