THE PEACE PROCESS IN SOUTH SUDAN: AN INTERVIEW WITH MAURO GAROFALO (SANT’EGIDIO) DURING THE EPISODE OF “COMMUNITY’S STORIES” (PADRE PIO TV)

The civil war in South Sudan -which began on December 15, 2013- has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people. The country's situation is dire; in fact, there are 2.5 million people who live in refugee camps that are located in neighboring countries. There are also 2 million internal refugees. The pandemic and an unprecedented rainy season have further brought the country to its knees. The Community of Sant'Egidio has always been committed to conflict resolution and peace promotion. For instance, an additional step forward in the South Sudanese peace process was achieved at the Community’s headquarters in Trastevere on October 14. In the "Community’s stories" (Padre Pio TV), Mauro Garofalo, who is the head of international relations at Sant'Egidio, discusses this accomplishment.
