A world without the death penalty, a struggle for humanity: The 9th Congress of the Ministers of Justice

The 9th International Congress of the Ministers of Justice from 30 countries, promoted by the Community of Sant'Egidio, was held today in the Chamber of the Deputies of the Italian Parliament in Rome. Representatives of abolitionist and retentionist countries discussed the possible roads towards the abolition of the death penalty, a road the Marco Impagliazzo, who presieded the two sessions of the meeting, described as "the struggle for humanity"

In the afternoon the delegation of the Ministers, led by the President of Sant'Egidio Marco Impagliazzo, met at the Palace of Quirinale the Italian President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, who underlined "the commitment to spread the opposition against the death penalty throughout the world".
