Prague: Elderly people finally out of nursing homes for the Jubilee of Mercy with Sant'Egidio

More than 700 elderly people accompanied by the Community on a pilgrimage to the Holy Door and the liturgy with the Card. Duka

On Saturday 18 June about 700 elderly people filled the Cathedral of Prague for a pilgrimage with the Community of Sant'Egidio on the occasion of the Jubilee of Mercy.

Sant'Egidio, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Prague, invited the elderly to the passage of the Holy Door and to attend a solemn liturgy presided over by the archbishop of the city, Cardinal. Dominik Duka. Many of the elderly present live in nursing homes, from which they rarely manage to get out: to be able to go to the cathedral and participate in the pilgrimage with the Community has been for them a source of great emotion.

The Cardinal in his homily stressed the beauty of the elderly, opposed to a throw-away culture. At the end of the liturgy, an old woman of the Community asked all the other elders to pray unceasingly for peace and so that young people can live a life full of sense in the service of the others. The day then ended with a time of celebration in the gardens of the archbishopric .
