A DELEGATION OF IRAQI RELIGIOUS LEADERS IS AT SANT’EGIDIO TO FIND WAYS TO BRING PEACE

In recent days the Community has hosted a group of religious and tribal leaders from Iraq's Sunni community. The gathering’s objective was to seek a peaceful way to the stabilization of the country pending the next elections. Current problems including the plight of many displaced people and especially the risk of losing the Christian presence in the nation have been discussed. These Iraqi religious and tribal leaders have requested Sant'Egidio and the international community to support a balanced, peaceful, and respectful electoral process for all ethnic-religious components of the country.
