THE COMMUNITY OF SANT’EGIDIO IN GOMA IS PRAYING FOR AMBASSADOR LUCA ATTANASIO AND THE VICTIMS OF THE ARMED ATTACK

This afternoon, in Goma, the Community of Sant'Egidio has gathered in prayer to remember with affection the Italian Ambassador Luca Attanasio, the Carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci, and the driver Mustapha Milambo who were killed in an attack a few kilometers away from the city, while they were going to bring food supplies in the interior villages.
The Ambassador visited the Community in Goma a year ago. He went there to see the School of Sant'Egidio, which is dedicated to Floribert Bwana Chui and is located in the Mugunga district. We were struck by his human gaze and attention to the needs of the children. Indeed, a friendship was immediately established.

The Community of Goma is saddened by this tragic event. All the victims of the attack were remembered by reading the passage from Matthew's Gospel about Jesus’ arrest in Gethsemane and his "enough!" to the use of violence causing incessant killings of many individuals in the region of Kivu.
The death of the Ambassador and the people involved commits everyone to work with greater dedication to disarm hearts. It is a way to create a fairer Congo, by starting with those little ones that Ambassador Luca Attanasio loved and dreamed of seeing grow.
