Youth For Peace with Pope Francis at the Pre-Synod for the youngsters

A spokesman of the Community of Sant’Egidio among the 300 young people gathered at the Pre-Synod with Pope Francis - from 19th to 24th March - and ahead of the XV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which will be focusing on young people, faith and vocational discernment.
Only yesterday Alessandro, member of the Youth for Peace, was interviewed by the Avvenire newspaper. “To be less afraid of suggesting to young people the encounter with the poor and the dimension of prayer”. This is what Alessandro Iannamorelli - 25 years old Law student in Rome - wants to recommend to the Church, particularly to the Bishops receiving the final document of the Pre-Synod including reflections of all 300 participant.

Unlike what is often thought about young people "looking for a greater fun", youngster are actually eager to find "an authoritative voice" for their life. «We can find an authoritative being next to the poor, because by meeting them we meet Jesus», says Alessandro member of the Community of Sant’Egidio. «This is my concrete experience, made up of young people undertaking after-school curricula for children living for the suburbs of Rome - like Tor Bella Monaca - and befriending teenagers, so much in need of role models, and with which they go to visit lonely elderly». According to Alessandro «society can and has to be re-shaped. However, the most genuine revolutions come from the hearts. Starting with the younger generations will give us a new prospective on how to resolve global problems with a sense of brotherhood among peoples: such as unemployment, a worldwide phenomenon,  and volatility of human relations».

«Zygmunt Bauman warned against the risk of getting caught up into emotions without nurturing real feelings» highlights Alessandro, «it is essential for young people to feel that not everything is uncertain while taking up new responsibilities. Without a bigger horizon we can easily feel stuck and with no future». Indeed, we should never feel “dominated by fear and resignation", rather to engage for the common good. «The world today calls us to be global and interlinked: this - he concludes - is the path to follow».
