During this serious emergency the measures taken to curb the infection of Coronavirus are keeping us physically detached. However, prayer and solidarity are two ways through which we want to fight isolation, protecting both ourselves and the most vulnerable people.
This is a difficult moment for all: we need prayer and solidarity more than ever.
Let’s stay close in prayer
Every day from the Church of Sant’Egidio streams the prayer IN ENGLISH at 7 pm (GMT+2). The prayer is available on the website until the same time on the following day. You can find it at www.santegidio.org and on Facebook. A bespoke timetable with all Holy Week celebrations and services we will be sent to you soon.
Let’s stay united in solidarity
Solidarity with the most vulnerable and poor people also continues, in compliance with the health protection rules dictated by the governmental bodies tackling this emergency. We ask everyone to support us at this time when frailties have become more acute. WATCH ON ROME REPORTS
The program “Viva gli Anziani!” (Long Live the Elderly!) too is intensifying video call services for the older people at home on their own, for those who are hospitalized or in care homes. We continue to talk to them, give them comfort and provide useful guidance to prevent contagion. We do not cease to provide help for exceptional needs that are arising during this emergency.
The situation for homeless people is particularly serious. It has been for several weeks. The need of food is rising, because of shops and bars that used to provide daily support to them have now shut.
The night distributions of food and protective equipment are continuing and there too we are providing health guidance to prevent contagion.
Our soup kitchens are open as always. Our Communities go on distributing food and other supplies to the people in need, in strict compliance with the health protection rules. READ ON NEW YORK TIMES
