ASSEMBLY WITH CHILDREN FROM THE SCHOOL OF PEACE IN BORIBANA SLUM AND WITH STREET JUVENILES IN TREICHVILLE

During Marco Impagliazzo's visit to the Ivory Coast.

A big celebration occurred this morning in Boribana, which is one of the largest slums in Abidjan. The latter place is the economic capital of the Ivory Coast.

During an assembly, which took place in the presence of the president of the Community of Sant'Egidio, Marco Impagliazzo, the children of the School of Peace told about their dreams and desire to build the future together, despite their different origins and the violence often experienced in the area.

There are many difficulties in the neighborhood, starting with the living conditions in the precarious housing, which are at risk, especially during the rainy season.

The School of Peace has now become the point of reference for many families in Boribana, particularly when it comes to civil registration and schooling.

Subsequently, Marco Impagliazzo met about a hundred children and young people living on the streets who are friends of Sant'Egidio. This encounter happened at the Community House, which is located in the central neighborhood of Treichville.
The children find shelter in this place throughout the year: they can eat, wash themselves and confide their problems.

During the congregation, they talked about their desires and plans for the future: finding a job, going back to school, and finding a family again. Thanks to the Community, some of these dreams are beginning to become a reality and lay the foundation for a different future.
