SOUTH SUDAN: PEACE TALKS ARE ALREADY UNDERWAY AT SANT’EGIDIO. A BRIEFING WITH MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL PRE-TRANSITIONAL COMMITTEE WILL TAKE PLACE AT 3 p.m

The Community of Sant'Egidio and the South Sudan Council of Churches recently invited a delegation from the National Pre-Transitional Committee to Rome. It was a way to discuss the ongoing national reconciliation process in the state. Anticipation is increasing in the country for the work of the National Pre-Transitional Committee, which is composed of Juba government ministers and representatives of the opposition forces. In particular, this expectation is growing especially after the peace agreement that was signed in Addis Ababa on September 12, 2018, and which is personally supported by Pope Francis, who gathered the main South Sudanese political and religious authorities for a spiritual retreat in Santa Marta, during the last April.

The delegation, which was received at the Vatican yesterday afternoon by Msgr. Richard Paul Gallagher (Secretary for Relations with States), will make a press statement at 3 p.m. at St. Egidio.
