The
Community of Sant’Egidio and the City of Rome, in accordance with the
main non-governmental organizations engaged in the fight against the death
penalty and gathered in the World Coalition Against Death Penalty (WCADP), The week of world mobilization against the death penalty (24 – 29 November), will culminate in the events of November 30th, which will take place in more than 150 cities of the five continents. The date has been chosen, because it is the anniversary of the first abolition of the death penalty in the Western world: in the Granducato of Tuscany, on November 30th 1786. On November 30th at 6.30 p.m., the Colosseo will be the center and meeting point of many events. Some of the 150 cities who joined the initiative will link up: Firenze, Venezia, Genova, Napoli, Palermo, Barcellona, Malaga, Amsterdam, Bruxelles, Wien, Berlin, Munich, Copenhagen, Antwerpen, New York, Dallas, Buenos Aires, Bogotà, Santiago of Cile, San Salvador and others. During the Press Conference, other more detailed information and materials will be given about the initiative “Cities for Life” and the campaign World Campaign for a Universal Moratorium. _______________________________________________________________________
