Delegation of Sant'Egidio to the Signing of the Agreement for peace and reconciliation in Mozambique. President Nyusi's gratitude for the community's peace work

A delegation from the Community, with Msgr. Matteo Zuppi, Chiara Turrini and Nelson Moda took part in the Ceremony of the Signing of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement that was held today in Maputo.

The declaration signed today puts an end to a period of military political tensions and establishes the rules for the demilitarization, disarmament and reintegration of the former Renamo military, whose president, Ossufo Momade, thanked President Nyusi "for marginalizing forces against peace".

The president of Mozambique, Nyusi, reiterated the firm will to resort to dialogue for any controversy and to never put the peace reached in Rome on October 4, 1992 ever again. In his speech, he expressed profound gratitude to the Community of Sant'Egidio for having been "the main promoter" and for the presence of Msgr. Matteo Zuppi who was one of the mediators and who with his presence at the signature table underlines its continuity.
