Andrea Riccardi visited the Dream Centre in Beira: a medical excellence for prevention and care of chronic and infectious diseases

Right in the heart of Beira city stands the Dream Centre, a complete multifunctional medical centre, created by Sant’Egidio. Here there are clinics dealing with the prevention and treatment of a number of illness: such as AIDS, female cancer and chronic diseases, like tuberculosis. This kind of diseases are all are very widespread in Mozambique, but care structures are unfortunately poor and lacking.

Moreover, there is a very modern molecular biology lab: a structure of excellence serving not only the patients of the Dream Centre, but it also provides pivotal support to the many other treatment centres spread in the central area of the country which are unable to guarantee such analyses.

In this vast compound there is also room for a Nutritional Center managed by the activists of the Dream Program who welcome and support in large part street children. They also run two different classrooms: for nursery school and asylum and for literacy programmes.
During his visit to Mozambique, Andrea Riccardi visited this centre which represents a medical excellence for the national health system and a reference point for thousands of patients.

Andrea Riccardi also met with the communities of Beira and the Sofala region. Furthermore, in the district of Munhava, on the outskirts of the city, he has inaugurated a place of welcoming and hospitality: a home for some abandoned elderly living on the street, the children of the School of Peace and the common Prayer of the Community.
