Christmas is just around the corner. The Community of Sant'Egidio, as every family, has started the preparations and our guests are about to receive the invitations to the Christmas Lunches. Among them there are elderly, homeless, people impoverished by the crisis, families in difficulty, poor and refugees.

For each of them there will be a seat at the table, friends ready to welcome them, and the most important gift for all: our friendship.

The tradition of the Christmas Lunch with the poor was born more than 30 years ago in Rome. At the beginning, it was a table with a small group of people, that year by year has gotten bigge.: so much so to reach 73 countries in the world, wherever there is a  Community of Sant'Egidio.

Last year more or less 200.000 people have taken part in the Christmas lunches all over the world. Receiving an invitation is a sign of dignity for those who receive it: everyone is called by name. It is a gesture of friendship that lasts all year round and becomes visits that transform the day of who lives in prisons, who is at the hospital, who suffers in a care home of loneliness.
