As part of his visit to Italy, after meeting with President Napolitano and Prime Minister Monti, Mustafa Abdel Jalil, leader of the Libyan National Transitional Council, has met a delegation from the Community of Sant'Egidio, within a friendship that has developed in recent months.
Abdel Jalil, who had visited Sant'Egidio April 19, 2011, was keen to point out that, particularly in this phase of national reconstruction "the role of organizations like yours can be crucial to bring our country closer to Europe".
Also for this he has invited a delegation from the Community to visit Libya and expressed a desire to attend the next meeting of prayer for peace among the world religions organized by Sant'Egidio to be held in September 2012 in Sarajevo.
During the interview it was stressed that in such a sensitive time for Libya, a commitment is crucial not only for the material reconstruction, but also for reconciliation between the different components of society.
