SANT'EGIDIO: "CHRISTIANS IN THE MIDDLE EAST: WHAT FUTURE?"
29 and 30 April THE FIRST INTER-CHRISTIAN SUMMIT IN BARI
With the participation of all the Churches of the East and the representatives of the European governments. The Christian communities in the face of conflicts. The prospects for peace and security.
The recent massacres of the sea, like the many wars going on across the Mediterranean, question the conscience of Europe and ask for not only emergency solutions, but also far-reaching ones. They are eagerly awaited by people living in those regions crossed by violence and conflict, they are relentlessly sought by Christians in those countries who are historical minorities, struggling with increasing difficulties that often have to do with their own survival.
This will be discussed in Bari on 29 and 30 April in the International Colloquium "Christians in the Middle East: What future?", which will see for the first time together all the Churches of the East, represented at the highest level.
Patriarchs and Catholic and Orthodox leaders, from countries like Syria, the victim of an endless conflict, will expose the problems of their communities and will be heard by authorities of State and Government, from the Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni to the Secretary for Relations with the States of the Holy See, Paul Richard Gallagher, and to the representatives of France, Germany, Russia, Great Britain, Greece, Cyprus and the United States.
We enclose the programme of the International Colloquium and the list of participants.
