The Community of Sant'Egidio of Sargodha, in Pakistan, and the catholic parish priest of the town, father Steger, allowed the aquitting of the death penalty of a 30-year-old man.
W. had been sentenced to the capital punishment with a charge of murder. After 5 years of prison, thanks to the work of persuasion of the Community towards the family of the victim (that granted the forgiveness) and to the payment of the fine, W. was freed. In the next few days, on express request of the freed prisoner, a thanksgiving prayer will have place in the house of the Community of Sargodha. W. is the third one sentenced to death whose life is safe in the last three years thanks to the engagement of the Community of Sant'Egidio in Pakistan that promoted reconciliation between the families of the victims and the sentenced to death. |
