“Muslims must denounce the atrocities committed against the Christian minorities and challenge those Muslims who fight the Christians", said Anwar Ibrahim, Member of the Malaysian Parliament and leader of the Islamic opposition party Pakatan Rakyat (PKR). He attended the panel session dedicated to coexistence between Christians and Muslims at the International Meeting "The courage to hope" organized in Rome by the Community of Sant'Egidio.
According to the Malaysian leader, "the respect for human dignity is not the tolerance, but knowing and appreciating the differences of the other religious groups”.
Ibrahim also said that "the issue in the Arab world is political, not religious. In the Muslim world the challenge is to state that without freedom and respect there can be no peace”. |
