ROME - The President of the Community of Sant'Egidio, Prof. Marco Impagliazzo, asked by a journalist on the national political situation that characterises the eve of the International Meeting for Peace, expressed his "concern about the ongoing political tensions, which threaten to disrupt the path of economic recovery and institutional reorganisation that the Government Letta has positively started, as well as to further aggravate the social situation, which is already dangerously degraded. A crisis of government means more poor people".
"Looking at the issues of great social and cultural significance that will be addressed in the days of the International Meeting promoted by Sant'Egidio, and at the international scene of great interest for peace in the world that has opened up in the last hours with the approval of the resolution on Syria at the Security Council of the United Nations - continued Impagliazzo - we all hope that the Italian political forces are able to unite efforts to enable the country and its institutions to participate as protagonists, with fullness of powers and legitimacy, in a positive development, unthinkable a few days ago, of the international political context".
