The Community of Sant’Egidio organised an inter-religious meeting in Maputo’s Sommershild area (at the TDM Conference Room) on 14th June. The conference bore the title: “Peace, Coexistence and Reconciliation”. The gathering, in the presence of religious leaders, ambassadors, academic and other figures, intends to set off a process of reflection on recent incidents of bigotry in South Africa, gathering witness statements from the speakers and above all from foreigners living in Mozambique. The initiative aims at nurturing the growth of the spirit of peaceful cohabitation and solidarity. The Community of Sant’Egidio is a lay movement with a membership of over 50 thousand persons, committed to spreading the Gospel and charitable work in more than 70 countries worldwide.
