A new aid mission in favour of the refugees of the North Kivu was carried out at the beginning of March.
The Community of Sant'Egidio started a collaboration with the dispensary "Gesom" in the town of Goma, that serves a district where several hundred refugees live encamped. The center offers free cares to all and particular care is taken of the women that have suffered sexual violences.
The supply of medicines (coming from Germany, where the Community of Sant'Egidio run a huge collection) is useful to continue the work of the dispensary, that is facing in these months always growing difficulties.
A new distribution of tents and clothes in the field of Mugunga was also carried out. 567 were the families reached by this second distribution, bringing up to about 1,600 the total of tents delivered. To complete the distribution to all families hosted in the refugee camp, 2,500 tents are still lacking, and they will be soon delivered.
This new visit in the refugee camp made it possible to discern other needs of the refugees. Some women, in fact, brought their children, affected by physical handicap. Most of them have leg wounds, sometimes due to bone fractures or to untreated infections. To address this problem a collaboration was started with some doctors of "Handicap International", an association working in Goma, available to operate on children that might need it.
