He’s Director of both the Department for Interreligious Affairs of the American Jewish Committee and the Institute for International Interreligious Understanding Heilbrunn. He is very active in promoting dialogue at the international level.
He has been Chief Rabbi of Ireland and President of the International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations.
In 2005 he received an important Papal honour for his contribution to reconciliation between Jews and Catholics. In 2010 Queen Elizabeth II appointed him as Commander of the British Empire (CBE) due to his work in promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperation among peoples and cultures.
