On October 25, yet another earthquake rocked Indonesia, causing a tsunami that struck the Mentawai Islands, a small archipelago off the western coast of Sumatra.
The tidal wave killed about 400 people and destroyed dozens of villages, mostly inhabited by Christians, and already very poor.
The Community of Sant'Egidio in Indonesia immediately started a fundraising to send emergency aid.
Rice, powdered milk, clothes and medicines were sent to Padang, the capital of the district, from where they reached the Mentawai islands.
In these islands live many children who benefit from the long distance adoption programme of the Community of Sant'Egidio. All of them are in good health even if their homes were damaged by the earthquake.
