Cardinal, Archbishop of Lyon, France

[1950, Rabat, Morocco]
After completing a degree in Philosophy at the Sorbonne, he graduated in Theology at the Catholic Institute of Paris. In 1998 he was appointed bishop of Moulins. Since 2002 he is Archbishop of Lyon. Member of the Doctrinal Commission of the French Episcopal Conference, and Chancellor of the Catholic University of Lyon, he is Cardinal since October 2003. Since 2003 he is also a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and member of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. In 2005, he hosted the International Meeting of Prayer for Peace entitled "Religions and Cultures: the courage of a spiritual humanism of peace.”
