 A delegation of the Community of Sant'Egidio participated in the ceremonies for the installation of the new president of El Salvador, Mauricio Funes. On this occasion, Andrea Riccardi and the delegation of the Community met different government personalities of the American continent, among whom, in particular, the presidents Felipe Calderón of Mexico, Alvaro Colom of Guatemala, Arias Sanchez of Costa Rica, Rafael Correa of Ecuador, and the USA Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
 The meetings gave the occasion to confront some subjects that the Community of Sant'Egidio has at heart, like abolition of the capital punishment, the fight against the violence spread in Latin America, the treatment of AIDS in Africa.
