Three days ago a delegation of the Community of Sant’Egidio arrived in Haiti through the Dominican Republic. With them they had a truck with emergency supplies: 5,000 liters of water, several tons of rice, sugar, milk, canned meat, baby formula and soap.
Once arrived at Port au Prince they met with the young, Haitian members of the Community. Unfortunately, a young woman, member of the Community, had been killed through the crumble of her house. Even if almost everyone is without a home, they are working hard to find the missing and to distribute help.
The center of the help distributions has been set up in the garden of a church in Port au Prince. In fact, the Community is collaborating with the bishop, Mos. Pierre Dumas, to organize the supplies.
The building of the Community in Port au Prince was also completely destroyed by the earthquake. So the young members of Sant’Egidio have been meeting on the rubble to pray together, in such a difficult moment, in which the pain and loss by the earthquake adds to the spread of desperation which pushes some people to violence.
Let's continue our solidarity with the victims of the earthquake
